5th Mediterranean Water Forum

About us

As part of the Mediterranean preparatory process for the 10th World Water Forum to be held in Bali, Indonesia, May 18 to 24, 2024, the mobilization of all stakeholders concerned by water issues in the Mediterranean will be achieved through a regional event: the Mediterranean Water Forum.

Under the aegis of the World Water Council and the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean: the Mediterranean Water Forum in its 5th edition will be held at Tunisia from February 05 to 07, 2024 at the invitation of Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries, organisé par la Société Nationale d’Exploitation et de Distribution des Eaux (SONEDE) et l’Institut de Méditerranéen de l’Eau (IME) 

A key stage in the preparatory process for the World Water Forum, the Mediterranean Water Forum is a genuine platform for exchanging and consolidating know-how and experience in the water sector in the Mediterranean, providing innovative solutions and responses to the drought situation that has plagued the Mediterranean region for several years.

Aims

  • Bringing together the key players in the Mediterranean water community,
  • Providing innovative solutions to changing water needs,
  • Provide a showcase for the replication of solutions to emerging problems on a global scale,
  • Establish an environment of dialogue conducive to the development of an equitable strategy for the sustainable management of water resources in the Mediterranean.
  • Help make water a political priority at global, regional and national level.

Previous editions

Editions of the Mediterranean Water Forum take place in different cities across the Mediterranean region.

The venue is chosen according to the availability of the necessary infrastructure to host the event, and to ensure good accessibility for participants from different countries. Over the years, the Forum has been held in various Mediterranean cities

Comité national d'organisation

A National Organizing Committee has been set up, made up of representatives from the host country (TUNISIE), of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Mediterranean Water Institute, initiator and coordinator of the Mediterranean forum.

Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries (MARHP)

IME

Union for the Mediterranean (UPM)

The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is a regional initiative launched in 2008, bringing together 42 Mediterranean countries. Its aim is to strengthen cooperation in areas such as economic development, political stability, environmental sustainability and cultural dialogue. By fostering collaboration between the nations of the region, the UfM aims to resolve common challenges and promote peace and prosperity in the Mediterranean. WHO

The Mediterranean Water Forum brings together water management professionals, scientists, researchers, political decision-makers and local players from various countries. The organizing committee estimates that over 500 people will attend the event. It is a platform open to all stakeholders interested in water management in the Mediterranean region, bringing together a variety of perspectives and solutions for efficient and sustainable water management.

World Water Council (WWC)

The World Water Council is an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the sustainable and equitable management of water resources worldwide. Founded in 1996, it brings together governments, academic institutions, businesses and civil society organizations to address water-related challenges such as scarcity, quality and access to this vital resource.
